How To Use The RACI Matrix for Scoping, Staffing And Managing Consulting Engagements

It seems to me that many consulting firms don’t fully understand the difference between delegated and collaborative services, and manage their engagements as if they were delegated services, like installing a toilet bowl or unblocking the kitchen sink.

The difference is that while plumbing is a “do it FOR me” service, consulting is a “do it WITH me” or “help me to do it for myself” type service. Plumbing is a delegated transactional service, but consulting is a collaborative transformational one. And missing this significant difference can make a pig’s ears of the fees consultants can charge for their engagements...
